I chose to study Media A-Level at Godalming College because I was intrigued by the wide range of texts that we look at, including magazines, music videos, newspapers, films and more. The part of the course I enjoyed the most has been the coursework. Creating my own music video and artist website allowed me to work on my digital skills and put my own ideas into a project. The course has helped me as in the class we do a lot of work together and it has allowed me to make friendships with people I may not have met if I didn’t do Media. The teachers I’ve had over my time at college, Mark, Paul and Karina have all been extremely helpful in showing me the areas I need to improve on as well as helping me with my coursework by giving me ideas and looking at what I had done. Future students should know that Media is a great subject if you enjoy being creative for the coursework as well as finding out more about the industry, especially if it is something that you want to go into in the future.
My favourite part of college life has been having the chance to make new friendships and have new opportunities. The college has supported me through its amazing Student Futures programmes. For example, in Lower Sixth the Future Fridays and Enrichment opportunity was incredibly insightful into different industries and learning from experts was something I hadn’t experienced before.
My Travel & Tourism trip to Belfast in January 2025 helped me connect with my subject as I was able to experience everything we’d been learning about in real time and helped me understand it more. The most memorable part of the trip for me was the opportunity to meet new people as I was still new to the college and it was a great chance to connect with them. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting the Giant’s Causeway and learning about its history. Going on trips at Godalming College allow students to visualise their leading and get a deeper sense of understanding.
